Anyone who has ever bought a cheap iPhone cable from a discount shop knows what we are talking about: there is nothing more frustrating than spending money on a product that only works halfway. Although you may save a handful of euros at first glance, it's ultimately money down the drain. When buying accessories for your TENS or EMS device, there are also a few things you need to pay attention to. At least, if you want your device to keep working excellently. An overview...
What to look out for when replacing cables?
If you need a replacement wire, for example, you need to make sure that it is capable of efficiently transmitting the current signals to the electrodes. For one thing, the wire itself must be of good quality, and it is also best not to be too long. The longer the wire, the greater the resistance (and loss of signal) and the more confusing - both literally and figuratively - it is to use. With a cable of about 1.20m, you can reach any spot on your body.
Need cleaning and contact spray?
Important condition for an effective TENS treatment or EMS session: the skin on which you apply the electrodes must be clean and free of grease. So do not use body lotion and wash off any put on and dirt before treatment. This can be done with soap and water, but even easier is the specially developed StimPads "Clean & Contact": spray it on your skin, wipe off and you are ready to go.
Cleaning your skin will not only improve the effect of your treatment, you will also extend the life of your electrodes: after all, the gel layer stays cleaner for longer, which means it is less likely to wear out.
If you are looking for a contact spray, make the same consideration as when buying soap: find something that is kind to your skin and check that it does not contain harmful substances, such as formaldehyde, for example.
