TENS treatment is an effective, clinically proven pain treatment. The treatment is absolutely safe. At least, if you start it with common sense and use the device properly. Therefore, before starting a treatment, get advice from a professional.
The biggest risk with TENS treatment is habituation. It may be that after a while your body gets used to the treatment and its efficiency decreases as a result. This is no reason to panic. - Do not use TENS on skin diseases or on open wounds.
- Avoid TENS if you have a pacemaker or implanted defibrillator or suffer from cardiac arrhythmias.
- Avoid TENS if epilepsy is suspected or diagnosed.
- Are you pregnant? If so, consult your doctor about whether TENS can be used.
- Do not use TENS if you have an active or suspected cancer. Stimulation of the tumour can promote the growth and spread of cancer cells.
Also important to know: you should not use a TENS device when driving a car or operating machinery, or when showering or swimming. It is also better not to use TENS when you are sleeping.
